After Write! Canada

I’m still trying to absorb all I’ve learned from Write! Canada. A week and a half has gone by and I have things to do to follow up. One of them is looking for a publisher for my manuscript.

The publisher’s agent  I spoke with made some suggestions where it might find a home, and now it’s up to me to do the digging and looking for guidelines to make sure the publisher is a good fit.  I’ve got a start on that.

The other thing is to write a synopsis. One publisher needs an abstract too. Has anyone ever written an abstract?

An abstract… no. I’m guessing it’s a sample excerpt, but I’d be interested to know what it really is.

I learned at Write! Canada that synopsis is not a synonym for summary – at least for fiction, it’s more important to give the feel of the story, “what it’s about,” using fiction techniques to draw the reader in, than to give a journalistic-style account of “what happens”.

Hi, Joanna. I’ll let you know when I find out.

    Must do more investigating.

    Hi, Joanna.

An abstract is a summary of key points in academic research and is a single paragraph which is double spaced and no more than 120 words. From Purdue University through an online teaching source.
